Earlier this week we learned that John Cena will be a part of the July 4 SmackDown show, which seems odd. Why waste such a huge return on a show that nobody is going to watch? Well, according to Cageside Seats, WWE does have a reason why, and it has nothing to do with television ratings.

According to the site, WWE is concerned about the show’s ticket sales, as they believe that the July 4 holiday will have a negative impact on the show’s live attendance, and they think that having Cena be a part of the show will help circumvent that.

“John Cena is being advertised for the July 4 SmackDown in Phoenix, apparently because WWE is concerned about ticket sales on a holiday.”

It’s unclear if Cena will actually be used on television, or if he’ll just be involved in the show’s dark match. Since it’ll be the 4th of July, my guess is the latter, especially since WWE’s main concern for the show is ticket sales.
