For the last decade, John Cena has been the heartbeat of the WWE. It’s not only because of his connection with the fans and his dedication to the company.
Those are significant factors, but Cena’s ability to sell merchandise and be the top draw of this business has kept him on top of the industry for so long. However, the winds of change may finally be coming, and it may finally be time for there to be a dramatic change for Cena.
According to DailyWrestlingNews.com, there is some significant concern within WWE right now because of the recent merchandise sales of John Cena and Roman Reigns.Apparently, Cena’s sales are significantly down from last year and the powers that be within WWE are deeply concerned because Reigns’ sales are not making up the difference like they thought it would be.
The word is that WWE officials are concerned that Cena’s and the WWE audience is growing older and isn’t as interested in his merchandise as they have been in the past and Cena’s numbers with children aren’t as lucrative as they once were.
Because of his success in that demographic, Cena has always been kept a babyface despite several opportunities to turn him into a heel.
As of this writing, John Cena is still WWE’s biggest merchandise mover, but the writing is already written on the wall. WWE is reportedly hoping and going to make a big push for Reigns’ merchandise through Wrestlemania 32 to see if he can fill Cena’s void.
