A few years ago, there was a lot of hype surrounding Kimbo Slice. After breaking into MMA through the internet, Slice went on to fight for Elite XC, UFC, and currently fights in Bellator.
However, Tomy Dreamer just did an interview with WWE.com and revealed that at one point, he was very impressed, and WWE was considering signing him in the mid 00’s.
While Dreamer was working for Talent Relations, he made a pitch for WWE to look into signing Kimbo to the company and he said the following about his pitch:
“His manager sent me a very impressive demo reel. Back then, it was on a VHS tape and I was totally in awe of what I was seeing. It was all street fighting and him cutting promos. I had no clue who he was and I was captivated once I saw him.”
However, other WWE officials didn’t think he would transition well to WWE because of his lack of experience. Dreamer revealed the following reasons why WWE decided to pass on him:
“I was told, “We’re not going in that direction,” and “How long would it take to develop a talent like that?” I don’t know if he would have went to developmental system at the time or if he [Kimbo] was thinking, “Hey, I’m gonna get signed and go to the main roster,” but it was kind of shot down quickly.”
