Last night, Sting was formally inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and took his place in wrestling history where he belongs. However, that wasn’t the only thing that was announced.
During his speech, Sting thanked many people, shared a lot of memories, and told a lot of stories. It was a good speech, but he also officially announced something that has been rumored for a few weeks now.
Sting announced that as of last night, he is officially retiring as an in-ring competitor. The WWE Universe pressed him for one more match and even chanted for The Undertaker at one point during the speech.
However, The Icon confirmed the rumors that he is retiring from wrestling and wanted to announce it at the proper time. He also claims that “This isn’t goodbye. It’s see you later.”
It’s a shame that we’ll never see some of the great final matchups that Sting had left in this industry, but it’s a good thing for Sting to make the announcement himself.
It’s a shame that sometimes being this on the pulse when it comes to the wrestling industry means that we had to spoil and take the moment away from Steve Borden to break his retirement news on his terms.
All of us here at Wrestling Rumors want to thank Sting for an epic career.
