Last week at “Money in the Bank,” AJ Styles defeated John Cena after some interference by The Club’s Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. It was a heel win, but still a win nevertheless.
It’s a strange reality for a lot of WWE fans to live in a world where AJ Styles has pinned John Cena because that’s the last thing they expected to happen. Many within WWE said the exact same thing.
According to a report from Wrestlinginc.com, the expectation for AJ Styles when he signed was he would be a midcard wrestler for most of his run unless something changed.
Thankfully, something changed. WWE officials were unsure of Styles’ ability to get over since he looks like a “normal guy.” However, their perspective changed after the fan reaction at the “Royal Rumble” early this year.
Apparently, he’s been getting great reactions during WWE live events, and the recent heel turn was a response to the feud with Roman Reigns and the change in perception from WWE officials.
Frankly, it will be a little insulting if this report turns out to be true that Styles was only thought of as a midcard wrestler by WWE officials despite his insane success in TNA and New Japan over the last decade.
Do you think AJ Styles will be a WWE Champion someday?
