Last night during Monday Night Raw, the meaning behind “The Hatch” promo that WWE had been teasing all week was revealed to be for Bill Goldberg.

He’s been revealed as a playable character for WWE 2K17 that is set to drop later this year. If you pre-order the game, Goldberg becomes an unlockable character, but this could serve as an opening for him to reemerge on WWE TV.

As of this writing, the former WCW and WWE Champion has only signed a deal with 2K Sports for the video game. He hasn’t signed anything exclusive with WWE, but it’s important to note that he couldn’t have been included in the game without Vince McMahon’s approval.

History is also on Goldberg’s side. In the past, both Sting and The Ultimate Warrior did the same 2K deal that led to their reemergence on WWE programming.

It has been rumored over the past six months Goldberg was negotiating with WWE for a return, and he openly said that he regrets how his wrestling career ended.

It’s important to remember that being involved doesn’t necessarily mean a match in WWE. The company could sign him to a Legends contract or even get a head start on the WWE Hall of Class of 2017.
