While I was watching NXT this week, I noticed something that really concerns me about the current state of NXT’s roster. Why is there a very noticeable lack of heel wrestling for the brand right now?
Right now, Samoa Joe is the only established big heel in singles competition for the brand. That’s it, and he’s going to be busy with Finn Balor going into next month’s Takeover. What does NXT do about this problem?
There are guys like Shinsuke Nakamura, Austin Aries, and a few others that need feuds going into the next Takeover special in June.
It’s not an absolute necessity for them to go into that event with red-hot rivalries, but Nakamura has been wrestling single matches with a few different talents for wins. There isn’t going to be a lot of tension there to build a feud.
The problem is that Nakamura has been running through NXT ever since Dallas, but what he needs is one guy to come to him and say that “you’re not so hot” and “I can stop you”, but there isn’t a big enough heel on their roster that can effectively do that.
Austin Aries is going to face the same problem. This role is exactly what Baron Corbin was perfect for as a heel in NXT. WWE called up Apollo Crews, but he could really be helpful to give us Aries vs. Crews or Crews vs. Nakamura in June at Takeover.
The powers that be in NXT better have a plan because the Takeover card needs to be filled and there is a lot of talent that still needs something to do for the event.
Do you think someone like Tyler Breeze should come back to feud with Austin Aries or Shinsuke Nakamura?
