Damien Sandow’s release from WWE still has me scratching my head. The rest of them I can understand because they were in development, not valuable to the WWE product any longer, or King Barrett.
With Barrett, it was time to push him or time to release him. He wasn’t staying anyway because WWE refused to do the former, but it seems that WWE’s release of him was because of similar logic, but that doesn’t make any sense.
There was a report that Sandow’s release had nothing to do with him, but WWE just wanted to change up the roster. No offense to anyone, but I could think of quite a few other talents that WWE could have released instead of Sandow, but that’s beside the point.
The point is that WWE released him because they didn’t think outside the box. For example, why didn’t someone in creative think about putting Sandow with Aiden English and Simon Gotch and make The Vaudevillains team a trio?
Not only would Sandow have fit in perfectly with their gimmick, but he would have been their best mouthpiece. That would have given them a great dynamic to compete with The New Day for the WWE World Tag Team Championship.
On paper, The Vaudevillains are heels, and Sandow’s presence would have turned them into faces, but that’s just playing the hand you’re dealt.
Sandow kept getting strong face reactions despite zero time on television, and there have been reports about Vince McMahon disliking The Vaudevillians. They had nothing to lose, and it most likely would have changed their minds around because there would have been another strong trio in the tag team division.
Unfortunately, we all have to move on and this idea is a pipe dream at this point, but that is exactly my point. If WWE had just thought outside the box a little bit, Sandow could have been something special again.
Do you think Damien Sandow joining The Vaudevillians would have worked?
