This could just be a crazy idea out of left field, but should WWE and other wrestling promotions have the same kind of statistics and match breakdowns as other sports?
I’m not talking about wins and losses and match records. We already have those. I’m talking about a full breakdown of matches to see who did what moves and truly show what happened in the ring.
For example, I’m a huge fan of major league baseball and analyzing statistics is a really strong way to find good players at any position and see some names that are flying under the radar.
Needless to say, there is a lot more to a pitcher’s statistics than wins and losses. I feel that same about wrestling matches because it could reveal who had the better match regardless of the final result.
It’s one thing to watch a match, see all the moves used, and judge the reactions. However, it’s another thing entirely to see it all written down to see how many punches were thrown, who relied on signature moves, and finishers.
It would be a full breakdown that could prove the quality of wrestling from a performer. Think of it like a box score for the matches and would provide deeper analysis on paper that we all naturally do while watching a match for the first time.
Of course, you’d have your “home-run hitters” who rely on finishing maneuvers, but you also may be able to see genuine wrestling ability in places you wouldn’t expect to see it.
If you could breakdown a wrestling match like that, it would be like “Moneyball” for wrestling, which could do wonders for any promotion to get the best talent possible.
Do you think getting full statistics of wrestling matches is a good idea?
