It’s insane that it took his death for this idea to be brought to light, but that’s how these things work sometimes, right? It’s actually astonishing that Muhammad Ali isn’t in the WWE Hall of Fame already, now it’s a mistake that needs correcting.
Looking at it now, Ali should be the frontrunner for the Celebrity Wing of the WWE’s Hall of Fame. His success in the boxing world and reputation as the greatest professional athlete in sports history is enough.
It’s true that he hasn’t been involved with WWE and pro wrestling for quite some time, but he did quite a bit in his heyday for the business.
For example, his boxer vs. wrestler match against WWE Hall of Famer Antonio Inoki in Tokyo was historic and created a unique sporting event at the time. The fight is regarded as a precursor to modern mixed martial arts.
For WWE, he was one of the special guest referees for the infamous main event of the first Wrestlemania between Hulk Hogan and Mr. T vs. Paul Orndorff and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. That alone gives him enough of an importance to the company’s history than some of the current WWE Hall of Famers in the Celebrity Wing.
Do you think Muhammad Ali will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017?
