WWE has received a lot of scrutiny over the past week about the upcoming Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia. A lot of people and even WWE performers aren’t happy with the company holding the event despite the news coming out of the country. There has been speculation about WWE canceling the event, but here’s what it would actually take.
According to a report from the Wrestling Observer, the United States government or the Trump administration would directly have to contact WWE and tell them to cancel the event. Public relations between the Saudis and the US are generally good, so it’s unlikely the company will be put into a position where they are forced to cancel Crown Jewel.

WWE officials are also going to fight against canceling the event at all costs because of the repercussions it would create for the company. Obviously, the Saudis money would go away but that just creates more problems. WWE has gotten its fanbase excited for an event that includes Shawn Michaels’ in-ring return. WWE has to deliver that promise.
It’s been rumored that all matches from the event would be moved to Survivor Series in the event that Crown Jewel is canceled. However, it’s unclear if Shawn Michales would be willing to wrestle at Survivor Series. WWE officials would also be forced to pay him the same money the Saudis were offering, or renegotiate with The Heartbreak Kid.
In terms of any damaging backlash, WWE officials have been more than willing to take the heat to benefit the company. The powers that be have endured Roman Reigns being booed out of the building to end WrestleMania. Some backlash against the company for holding an event in Saudi Arabia isn’t anything new, but it could become a bigger issue.
