WWE announced yesterday that Charles Wright, who famously wrestled in WWE as Papa Shango, The Godfather and other gimmicks, will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame at this year’s Wrestlemania alongside Sting.
There is no doubt that Wright was a good competitor for WWE during the 90’s and early 00’s. He wrestled for thirteen years. He was a member of the Nation of Domination and had numerous characters that the WWE Universe still remember to this day.
Wright is certainly worthy of consideration for the WWE Hall of Fame, but did he really have the Hall of Fame career in WWE that warrants him to be inducted alongside a superstar in this business like Sting?
The reaction for his induction has been mixed. Some have been happy; others would say he respectfully didn’t have a WWE Hall of Fame career.
Many seem to be embracing Wright’s induction with indifference. That’s not exactly the response you’d want going into Pro Wrestling’s Cooperstown.
The fact is that Charles Wright performed as many different characters, was a Tag Team and Intercontinental Champion, and one of the most memorable midcard characters of the Attitude Era.
The debate is going to continue about whether or not he deserves to be called a WWE Hall of Famer, but WWE seems to think so. Now, it’s up to the WWE fans to embrace him.
Do you believe The Godfather deserves to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame?
