Everything about Dean Ambrose’s character was “off” after his return to Monday Night Raw before Summerslam. It took several weeks for him to finally turn heel, but fans are thrilled with the feud he’s rekindled with Seth Rollins. The only complaint fans have is how WWE officials turned him heel on the same night as Roman Reigns announcement.
Suddenly, the WWE Universe is extremely protective of Roman Reigns. There is a major difference between booing him because he’s WWE’s top guy and supporting him during one of the most difficult times of his life. It’s a sensitive subject for most people so Dean Ambrose taking a dig at Roman Reigns on Raw during a promo ruffled a lot of feathers.

Ambrose claiming that it’s divine justice for Roman’s leukemia to resurface for his role in The Shield is a strong heel move. It crosses the line, but no one though that Ambrose was going to be this clean heel once he turned. That’s why people wanted him to make the turn for so long, but now he’s taking the blame for crossing a line on Raw this week.
According to a report from RingSideNews, The Lunatic Fringe stuck to the script and the dig at Roman made it through production meetings and had Vince McMahon’s approval for Ambrose to say. At this point, the WWE Universe shouldn’t be surprised by the tactic of using the fans’ emotions against them in the feud between Ambrose and Seth Rollins.
Ambrose isn’t expected to keep it clean over the course of his heel run. The fact that this many people are offended by it proves that WWE officials struck a chord and Ambrose’s heel run is hitting the right buttons. On paper, a heel is supposed to make the fans angry and create controversy. Dean Ambrose is doing exactly what they are supposed to do.
