In 2015, it was the sneak attacks and inference from a select few members of the WWE Universe that made the biggest impact on the product. Frankly, it’s much easier to get a few quick shots in before security takes the fan down than to plan something elaborate.
This year all three members of The Shield have been involved in a fan altercation. Seth Rollins dealt with a fan interfering with his entrance. Roman Reigns was hit in the head with a replica Money in the Bank briefcase, and Dean Ambrose was attacked by a fan with the intent to stab him.
There have been numerous other similar fan inferences and attacks over the year in all promotions, but Alberto Del Rio is the latest to be added to the list as of yesterday.
The current WWE United States Champion Alberto Del Rio was wrestling in a match against Ray Gonzalez at Saturday night’s WWC’s Lockout event in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.
During the match, Del Rio was attacked by a fan in attendance and the fan landed multiple blows until several others broke it up. The match continued as if nothing had happened, but it’s an unfortunate situation to have to derail the kayfabe of the match for the rest of the crowd.
