The New Day has held the WWE Tag Team Champions for the majority of 2015. It’s given a veteran like Kofi Kingston new life and given great purpose to Big E and Xavier Woods.

The trio has been tremendously successful, and most of that is the creativity of the three performers, Specifically, Xavier Woods has been able to add a lot to the group with something as simple, yet random as a trombone.

Woods recently spoke with The Detroit News about a variety of things. You can read the full interview right here. Below are some interview highlights:

On playing trombone and the WWE Universe catching on to it:

“It became its own beast. That’s the beauty of it. People don’t realize it, but some of the best stuff comes from not having a plan.”

On early criticism of New Day and proving them wrong:

“I like proving people wrong. The best revenge is success, and I’m a very vengeful, grudge-keeping person. So when someone says I can’t do something and I prove them wrong, I don’t have to say I told you so, because they see me on TV doing it.

“Those people that disregarded me and made fun of me? I fulfilled my lifelong dream becoming a WWE champion. The fact that I navigated life in a way to reach those goals makes me feel good.”
