As announced today on WWE.com, WWE has released Ellsworth from his contract. This is hardly a big surprise as Ellsworth has only been used for comedy segments as of late, including basically being a weird slave to Carmella. Ellsworth also lost his first match in months to Becky Lynch during the recent tour of England. He has already commented on his release on Twitter:
Thank you @WWE for letting me live my dream, thank you fans for all the support, l'll continue to prove #AnyManWithTwoHandsHasAFightingChance

Here’s one of Ellsworth’s final, and most appropriate, moments.

Opinion: Really, this isn’t much of a surprise and there’s nothing wrong with that. I don’t think anyone realistically though Ellsworth was going to be a long term star in WWE but there’s more to it than that. How many independent bookings do you think Ellsworth is going to get now? A lot of the smaller independent companies live and die by having ex-WWE stars there and Ellsworth can now get a much higher fee than he would have before. It’s quite the benefit for him, which is a lot more than he would have gotten a year and a half ago.
What did you think of Ellsworth’s time in WWE? What was his best moment? Let us know in the comments below.
