That’s quite the risk. There are a lot of parts to putting together a WWE show but the biggest is of course the wrestlers. Without the right talent in the right spot, fans are not going to care and it can become obvious in a hurry. You have to get these things right or the whole thing falls apart. One WWE boss understands this and was willing to put a big bet on it.
NXT has come a very long way since its inception and that has been a great thing for wrestling fans. The changes have been both big and rapid fire, but there are a few things that have stayed the same the entire time. One of the most important is William Regal, who has served as the General Manager of the show since July 2014. However, he almost gave up his job for the sake of a wrestler, which wound up paying off.
In a new interview with the Daily Star, Regal revealed that he had gone to bat to get Sasha Banks hired by WWE. Regal even said that if WWE hired her and she did not work out, the company could fire him. This came after Banks had begun talking to Regal about wrestling while working as an extra at a WWE show. Regal said he tried to get her hired because the people in charge of hiring wrestlers at the time would not have given her a chance.
Both of them have done rather well. Check out how they did in NXT:
Opinion: This is quite the story and something I completely believe. I’m not sure I can imagine Regal actually being fired if Banks didn’t work out, but it says a lot about his eye for talent to put himself out there like that. Regal has come a long way in his role and it is great to see what kind of things he has done in WWE. Hopefully he gets to do something like this for as long as he wants, and if he can find someone anywhere close to Banks, it gets even better.
