The card is growing. We are less than two weeks away from WWE’s next major event with Payback on September 2. The show will be the follow up to Summerslam but also will mark the beginning of a new series of big storylines. At some point WWE has to actually announce some matches for the show though, which was the case this week as several matches were set for the card.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Double Time: Injured WWE Superstar Makes Surprise Return, Wrestles Twice On Monday Night Raw
WWE announced the first three matches for the Payback card this week on Monday Night Raw. First, Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus will take place inside of a steel cage. This match had already been announced with only a date to be set. Second, Shinsuke Nakamura will challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship. This match was also announced in advance without a date. Finally, Rhea Ripley will defend the World Women’s Title against Raquel Rodriguez. This comes after Rodriguez was injured by Ripley, with a title shot being granted to her as soon as she was medically cleared.
There are some big ones here. Check out how these matches were set or advanced:
Opinion: There are only so many spots on a pay per view card like Payback and WWE really needed to have a night like this where they could set up a lot of things. Thankfully a good chunk of the card is now set and that means we are going to get to see where the show will go from here. WWE has a strong foundation set for the show and it they can nail the rest, Payback should go rather well.
