It’s a big night. WWE has been working to expand its international presence by running several events outside of the United States and Canada in recent months. This includes going to locations that have never seen top level WWE events, which makes for a special moment when they do come around. That is what they are doing this week and now the fans got a special bonus.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The First: Inaugural WWE Champion Crowned In Special Match
This week’s SmackDown took place in the LDLC Arena in Lyon-Decines, France, the same location as Saturday’s Backlash event. The show ended with AJ Styles and WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes having a staredown before their match at Backlash. WWE has uploaded a clip to YouTube, showing Rhodes addressing the crowd after the show and his post-show dark match. Rhodes talked about how he spoke to the fans in Paris at a previous event, saying that if they stayed this loud, WWE would bring a Premium Live Event to France. Rhodes said Backlash would be their show and WWE might bring another to the country.
It was a nice speech. Check out what Rhodes said and what happened on the show:
Opinion: This is the kind of thing that gives the fans something special to end an already big night. Rhodes was right when he said that Backlash is going to be for the people, as WWE has come a long way to present the event there. You could feel the energy from the crowd and that is going to make the show all the better for the wrestlers as well as the fans, which WWE seems to understand.
