One more for the card. Over the last year, 205 Live and by definition the Cruiserweight Title, have become much bigger than they were before. At the moment Buddy Murphy holds the title and become one of the better champions in the title’s history. However, he has defeated Cedric Alexander twice and with Mustafa Ali on the main roster, Murphy needs a fresh opponent.
This week on 205 Live, General Manager Drake Maverick announced that Murphy would be defending the title at the Royal Rumble, though it will be in a four way match instead of a regular singles match. The three opponents will be set up via qualifying matches, starting with Kalisto vs. Lio Rush and Drew Gulak vs. Akira Tozawa next week, plus Cedric Alexander vs. Hideo Itami the following week.
Here’s the champ against a potential challenger. Check out how good Murphy really can be:
Opinion: At the moment, this is the best option they have for a title shot. Murphy doesn’t really have a challenger at the moment so putting several of them in there at once makes a lot of sense. They even have a few weeks of TV matches now to set up the pay per view match, which is pretty smart booking. Hopefully it plays out well and we can get a fresh one on one challenger next time.
