They had to make a change. A wrestling promotion can set things up as well as possible but that does not mean the fans are going to go along with it. At times, the fans are going to decide that they want to cheer for someone no matter what and often, the promotion will have to change as a result. It seems that was the case again last year and the change has continued to roll.

Last October, Seth Rollins won the United States Title from Bobby Lashley. This caused Mustafa Ali to say that he was owed a title shot, as promised by Lashley. The two brawled for weeks, but ultimately Ali did not get a show, with Austin Theory and Lashley feuding with Rollins instead. In an interview with Metro, Ali said that he believes WWE felt that Rollins was becoming popular with the fans, including them singing his song. At the time, Ali was “this babyface that wasn’t fully developed” so WWE had to decide whether to make a change with Rollins or not. Rollins became a full blown babyface shortly thereafter.
They did have some issues. Check out Rollins and Ali’s feud:
Opinion: I can understand WWE’s idea here, as while Ali has potential, Rollins is one of the biggest stars of the generation. Rollins turning into a babyface was a huge change for him and the fans have cheered him ever since. It should be interesting to see what he can do in the near and far future, while Ali can find something else to do. WWE made the right decision here, and thankfully they didn’t take too long to do it.
