Mama mia! If you watched “Smackdown Live” this week, you might have noticed something missing. The usual four person commentary booth was cut in half this week as David Otunga was off filming a movie and Mauro Ranallo was stuck in the northeast due to a blizzard.
As it turns out, some commentators didn’t think much of that. “Impact Wrestling” commentator Josh Matthews took to Twitter to talk about the situation, basically saying that Ranallo wasn’t as tough as he and Taz were. The two of them apparently made a long trip to get to a show and Matthews seems to look down on Ranallo as a result.
With @OfficialTAZ in the car, I once drove us 2 days to Indianapolis to make a TAPED Smackdown show from NYC. #JustSayin'

Taz seems to agree and was re-tweeted by Jim Ross.

In addition to the Tweet, Taz brought it up on his radio show “The Taz Show”.
“You can not miss a show. You can’t. You can’t miss a show. When you miss a show – in no order of preference – you get heat with the locker room, you get heat with your boss, you get heat with your broadcast colleagues. It’s just not a regular job. You are there once a week, and you are making a lot of money with a massive, massive platform. You’ve got to be there. You’ve got to make the shot. No matter what happens. Mauro is from Canada, okay, so he’s well-versed when it comes to weather and snow. People knew the storm was coming for days.”
Opinion: It seems that the commentators are in unison on this but the only opinion that really matters is WWE’s. If they’re ok with it, this is nothing resembling a story. I liked the smaller booth because there’s no logical reason to have the four of them doing commentary at one time.
Was Ranallo wrong for missing the show? How many people do you like in your commentary booth? Let us know in the comments below.
