There’s more to the story. Back in April, WWE let a lot of people go at once. Several dozen wrestlers and trainers were let go from the company, including main roster wrestlers as well as developmental talent. That isn’t something you see every day, or ever for that matter, and it isn’t something that went well for almost anyone involved. The releases weren’t over, and it turns out that one of the reasons wasn’t due to financial cuts.
Earlier this week, Rachael Ellering announced that she was officially released from WWE. This did not seem to be the worst news in the world for her and she seems ready to move back to the independent scene. She has been around the wrestling world for a long time despite still being young, but it turns out that there was something rather specific about WWE that she didn’t like.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ellering was released from WWE due to a disagreement over her rehab following major knee surgery in June 2019. Ellering did not agree with WWE’s medical team and spoke to the company’s management about it. This was not well received and Ellering was going to be released as a result of the complaints. It is not clear if Ellering was one of the talents released in April who had not been announced to date or a fresh release entirely.
Ellering made an impact while she was around. Check out her release announcement plus some highlights:
Opinion: I’m not sure what to think of this but this isn’t the first time that wrestlers have not exactly agreed with WWE’s medical team. It isn’t clear what Ellering disagreed with but the fact that WWE was willing to release her almost immediately says a lot about how much they thought of her. Ellering is going to be fine back on the independent circuit, though I’m curious about why she was let go so soon.
