It’s kind of a mess. One of the biggest wrestling stories of 2022 was the backstage brawl between CM Punk/Ace Steel and the Elite after AEW All Out. The incident resulted in all kinds of speculation and different versions of what happened, but also a string of suspensions. Punk is still suspended but now he has something to say about what happened before the incident.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Big Update On Bobby Lashley’s WrestleMania 39 Status, New Match Discussed

Earlier this week, Dave Meltzer made a post on the Wrestling Observer Board saying that Punk agreed to lose the AEW World Title to Jon Moxley but then changed his mind and sent a legal letter to AEW saying he wouldn’t. This caused AEW President Tony Khan to put his foot down on the issue, with Punk losing the title to Moxley in a match that ran less than five minutes.

Punk posted and then deleted a message on Instagram which, according to Wrestlignnews.co, was a response to Meltzer’s statement. According to Punk, he was not medically cleared to wrestle due to a foot injury when he lost the title. Moxley is said to have pitched a “Rocky III” inspired story where Punk lost the title and then came back to win it at All Out, which he did.

When Punk said he did not like the idea, Moxley allegedly said he would not lose to Punk, who went with Moxley’s idea because it was what Khan wanted. Punk went on to win the title back eleven days later at All Out, where he was injured again and has not wrestled or appeared. Punk closed out the message by saying “Dave Meltzer is a liar. Jericho is a liar and a stooge. There were plans but plans always change but I’ll never put a company above my health ever again.” There has been no response from Punk or AEW since the message was deleted. Both messages can be seen in the Tweet below.

Punk has had some good times in AEW. Check out some of his better moments there:

Opinion: There is a lot here and I’m not sure where to start. First and foremost, it seems less and less likely that Punk is going to be back in AEW anytime soon. Comments like these aren’t exactly making AEW look great and that isn’t going to make Khan want Punk around again. Other than that, you have a lot of allegations against Moxley and AEW and if those are true, neither is going to look good. It’s going to be interesting to see where this goes, but that could take quite a long time.

What do you think of Punk’s statements? Will he ever wrestle for AEW again? Let us know in the comments below.
