The numbers are in. This past weekend, the modern wrestling war saw its first head to head battle with AEW and WWE airing events at the same time. Well kind of at least as WWE aired an Evolve event on the WWE Network, but the bigger event was the next night, when WWE presented Extreme Rules. So that brings up the obvious question: which show made more of an impact?
According to Forbes, Extreme Rules handily defeated AEW’s Fight For The Fallen in the metric of trending searches on Google. AEW did not crack the top twenty searches on Saturday while “WWE Extreme Rules” and “WWE Network” were two of the top twenty searches on Sunday. This evens the score, as AEW won the Google search battle on the night of Double Or Nothing.
This was the show that won the weekend. Check out the full results of Extreme Rules:
Opinion: This doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it does make it clear that WWE is still the dominant force in wrestling. That may not be the biggest surprise to everyone, but it shows how much more AEW has to do to come into WWE’s league. That isn’t the biggest surprise in the world, as WWE has been the king for so long. While that could change, it is certainly the case for now.
