Someone has to be next. We’re coming up on Takeover: Phoenix at the end of January, and that means we’re going to be seeing a heck of a card with some of the best matches to be seen anywhere. Some of those will involve titles, but before we get to the show itself, you have to build up those matches in the first place, which includes getting challengers ready for those title matches. Like NXT did this week.
This week on NXT, Bianca Belair won a four way match also involving Lacey Evans, Mia Yim and Io Shirai by pinning Evans with the KOD to become #1 contender against NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler. Belair is currently undefeated in NXT and this is her first shot at the title so far. Baszler is currently in her second reign as Women’s Champion, having won the title at Evolution.
It’s the first step towards gold. Check out the rather action packed #1 contenders match:
Opinion: Belair is one of the best choices to go after the title as she’s one of the most natural athletes in wrestling today and has been built up as a star. If they do things the right way with her, she could be one of the biggest stars in NXT for a long time. She has the look, the athleticism and the talking ability. What else could you really need? Other than the title that is.
Do you think Belair wins the title? Was she the right choice for the title shot? Let us know in the comments below.
