They did something else. Injuries can completely derail any plans a wrestling promotion has and there is little that can be done to stop them. A wrestler can go from fine to in big trouble in the blink of an eye and the question becomes what can be done from there. That was the situation again over the weekend and now we know more of what happened as a result.

Over the weekend at the Royal Rumble, CM Punk suffered a torn tricep, which has resulted in him being unable to wrestle at WrestleMania. According to Fightful Select, Punk’s injury resulted in the Seth Rollins/Cody Rhodes segment being added to this week’s Monday Night Raw. The segment saw Rollins attempting to convince Rhodes to choose to face him at WrestleMania rather than Roman Reigns. In addition, there was no change to the planned Royal Rumble finish, as Rhodes was always planned to eliminate Punk to win.

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that has to happen every so often and while it is never good, it is something that took the company in its new direction. I can’t imagine Rhodes selecting Rollins, but just adding in the possibility made things a bit more interesting. Punk being gone is a big hit to WWE, especially at this time of the year, but at least, WWE has an idea in mind.
