That’s why they do it. WWE is a lot of things but ultimately, they are a business out to make money. No matter what is going on, their goal is to bring in as much revenue as possible. There are several ways to do that and a lot of it comes from taking their shows around the world. Now they are doing it again and making a rather nice payday for the entire thing.

Last month, WWE announced that they would be bringing Backlash to Puerto Rico in May. According to Wrestlenomics, the Puerto Rico Convention Center District Authority, and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company is paying $1.5 million subsidy, plus an additional $300,000 in-kind contribution for running the event in Puerto Rico. According to Fightful Select, WWE is looking around domestically and internationally to see where they can hold events with the most economic impact. Backlash is scheduled to take place on May 6, marking the first major event in Puerto Rico since 2005.

WWE has been to Puerto Rico before. Check out how things went there:
Opinion: This does clear a few things up, but it shouldn’t be surprising for WWE to take one of its events outside of the continental United States. They have done it many times before and have been doing it even more frequently lately. That can make for some interesting changes of pace as WWE can only go to the same places so often before the charm wears off. Puerto Rico is a nice change of pace and has me wondering where else they might go.
What do you think of the move? Where else should WWE take its events? Let us know in the comments below.
