Si. As we came into “Takeover: WarGames”, one of the surefire bets would have been Drew McIntyre retaining the NXT Title over Andrade Cien Almas. McIntyre won the title three months ago in Brooklyn and seemed ready to take it into at least Philadelphia for a match against Adam Cole. But first, there was Houston.

At “Takeover: WarGames”, Almas defeated McIntyre with a hanging inverted DDT to become the new NXT Champion. This makes Almas the twelveth NXT Champion and leaves McIntyre as one of the shortest reigning champions in the title’s history, with a reign only lasting ninety one days.

Here’s what Almas’ manager Zelina Vega had to say before the match.

Zelina Vega promises Andrade "Cien" Almas will leave TakeOver: WarGames as the new NXT Champion

Opinion: Well I’m stunned. I would have almost bet on Almas losing here but in theory this should move McIntyre up to the main roster sooner rather than later. There’s no real reason to keep him down in NXT much longer and I think everyone knows it at this point. He’ll get his rematch and maybe one more match before likely debuting around the Royal Rumble. That’s a good thing too as McIntyre was ready for the main roster the day he returned.

Are you surprised Almas won? Who do you think takes the title off of him? Let us know in the comments below.
