Last weekend on AEW Collision, it was announced that the promotion would be bringing back its ranking system which was used for the first few years of the promotion’s existence. According to Bryan Alvarez on Bryan & Vinny Show, it was reportedly Punk’s idea to get rid of the rankings in the first place. Punk was said to have talked Tony Khan out of using the idea, though it is now returning with Punk gone. There is no word on when the rankings will return or if any changes will be made to them.

Opinion: I’m not sure what this is going to mean for AEW but the idea of the rankings didn’t exactly work so well in the beginning. There were instances of wrestlers being at or near the top of the rankings for months without getting a title shot, which left fans wonder how things were supposed to work. Maybe AEW can make them work again this time, but I’m more than a bit hesitant about the idea.
What do you think of the idea? How will the rankings go? Let us know in the comments below.
