Back out. There are few thins in wrestling more important than a wrestler returning after a lengthy absence. It opens a variety of stories, as you never know where things are going to go upon their return. Such a return took place this week on WWE television as a wrestler returned to the ring. However, things did not go as planned and he may already be back on the shelf.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Incoming: Here Is What The Recent Monday Night Raw Symbols Have Been About (Contains SPOILERS)
This week’s SmackDown included the return of AJ Styles following a three and a half month absence. Styles was interrupted by Carmelo Hayes, resulting in a match between the two of them. However, the match ended early as Styles suffered an ankle injury, with the referee stopping the match and Styles eventually being taken to the hospital. There is nothing to suggest that this is anything more than a storyline.
He’s still got it? Check out Styles’ return, the match, and some of his better days:
Opinion: This feels like an interesting way to go, as the idea of Styles’ body not being able to hold up anymore after decades in the ring is not a story that you often see. Styles has said that his in-ring career is nearing its end and this could certainly be a unique way for him to wrap up his time in the ring. For now, it is a fresh way to go and I’m curious to see where things go from here.
