It might be the best idea. Back in December 2020, Sting made his surprise debut in AEW. This came after a several years long run in WWE which did not go so well. Sting’s time in WWE featured him in some forgettable matches and not exactly looking like a legend. Things have been a bit better in AEW, but there is still one more thing to accomplish. AEW will be helping him with that in a special way.
While you can argue about when they officially began, cinematic matches became popular during the Broken Hardys storyline. The feud saw Matt and Jeff Hardy fighting with and against each other in a variety of matches filmed in advanced and heavily produced. Other wrestlers have gotten in on the act and now AEW is going to be doing the same thing again soon.
According to Wrestling Observer Live, the upcoming street fight between Sting and Darby Allin against Team Taz at AEW Revolution will mostly be a cinematic match. This will be the case despite Sting taking bumps and using his signature offensive moves during brawls on Dynamite. The match will be Sting’s first of any kind since he lost to Seth Rollins at Night Of Champions 2015.
Sting has looked good so far. Check out what he has done in AEW:
Opinion: This is about all they could have done for the match as the idea of Sting wrestling a regular match does not exactly seem like the safest idea in the world at the moment. I understand that he can be cleared and such, but having anyone with his history of neck injuries in a match is not the best idea. Hopefully everything works out, but at least they are trying to do something that makes it a bit safer.
