Not so fast? Wrestlers are athletes, but there are certain things about their careers that are not like their mainstream counterparts. One of the biggest is retirement, as wrestlers can often jump back into the ring for a one off here or there, as there is no such thing as a season in most wrestling promotions. That can make for some interesting returns, but we might not be seeing one this time.
Last month, a report emerged that Steve Austin was possibly returning to the ring for a match at WrestleMania 38, possibly against Kevin Owens. Nothing was ever officially announced though, and now the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Austin may not be having a match, though there is still a possibility. Austin is still expected to have a confrontation with Owens of some form, likely resulting in Owens taking a Stunner.
Opinion: The more I think about it, the better this might be for everyone involved. At the end of the day, Austin has not wrestled in nearly twenty years and is closer to sixty than fifty. There comes a point where you don’t want to take the risk of being horrible out there and I think that is the case again here. Austin can come in, beat someone up and leave without putting on the boots and trunks again, which will be about the same result. Go with the safe option here, and let things work out as they should.
