That’s why. WWE has several traditions over the years, including the use of celebrities. The company has brought in a variety of celebrities in all kinds of roles throughout its history, including both on pay per view and on regular television. That was the case again this week with a rather big mainstream sports star and now we know a good bit more about how the whole thing came together.

This week’s Monday Night Raw featured an appearance by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who loaned Logan Paul his Super Bowl rings to hit Jey Uso, only to have Paul accidentally hit JD McDonagh instead. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Paul’s Prime sports drink company put the cameo together. Mahomes also represents Prime, who wanted he and Paul to work together in the segment. This is why Mahomes had to be a heel in the segment, as he was aligned with Paul.

Opinion: This is the kind of special appearance that will get WWE some extra attention and that is what it was supposed to do. Mahomes is one of the biggest sports stars in the country and having him appearing on WWE TV in any role is a good thing. I’m not sure I can imagine him showing up again, but for now it was a nice moment that made WWE feel that much bigger.
