He had an idea. There are all kinds of characters in wrestling and some of them can become iconic if done the right way. During an interview with Metro, former WWE Superstar Elias claimed that he came up with the Monday Night Messiah character, with hopes that he would portray it. However, the gimmick was ultimately given to Seth Rollins, who used it for several months. Elias said that it was no disrespect meant to Rollins, but he said “this is how the system works” and called it “the risk you take with giving these ideas”. Elias was released from WWE in September 2023.

Opinion: Unfortunately, Elias is right in that this is something that can happen. I can certainly imagine Elias pitching a character like this as he already had something with the “Walk With Elias” deal. That being said, Rollins was a much bigger star than Elias and it makes sense that WWE would want to give him a big time character like this one. That doesn’t make it fair though, as Elias could have probably used it a lot more.
