Hand over the gold. Titles are the most important things in most wrestling promotions, as they are things that almost anyone can understand. Some wrestler has a shiny belt and someone else wants to take it away. That is the kind of thing that can drive a storyline for months and a title change means a lot. This week saw three titles changing hands on the same night.
There were two title changes across two different promotions this Thursday. First up, Tyler Bate defeated Trent Seven to become the final NXT United Kingdom Champion in a title change that had previously been spoiled on NXT TV. Second, Honor No More’s Mike Bailey and Matt Taven defeated the Good Brothers to become the new Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions. This comes as the Good Brothers’ contracts with the company are expiring and they are likely leaving the promotion.
Opinion: Titles changing hands is a guaranteed way to make things feel more important, especially if they do not happen very often. That is the case with both of these changes, as you do not see new champions crowned with these titles. Both new reigns have potential and now the question is how well the champions will do with their newly won championships.
