They have long term plans. Earlier this month, AEW announced the introduction of the long awaited Trios Titles, which will see the inaugural champions crowned in a tournament final at All Out on September 4. The tournament field has been announced but one of the wrestlers is missing. That is because there is a bit of a twist, and it is part of a much bigger story.
One of the teams involved in the tournament is the Young Bucks teaming with a mystery partner. The Bucks have been trying to recruit Hangman Page but he has kept turning them down. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the story will continue to involve Page, but the partner will likely be the returning Kenny Omega, as the Elite storyline will continue. In addition, a rumored match between FTR and the Young Bucks was discussed, but it is not clear how serious it was considered. AEW President Tony Khan went with his original plan of the Trios Titles, with the Young Bucks not influencing his decision.
Opinion: This is one of the more interesting situations that AEW has had in recent months, though I’m still not sure why the Trios Titles tournament has to happen immediately instead of Bucks vs. FTR III. That being said, the Elite has long since been treated as the most important thing in AEW and if the company absolutely must have Trios Titles, they were always going to be involved in this spot.
What do you think of the situation? Who will be the inaugural champions? Let us know in the comments below.
