To the other side. There are all kinds of ways to advance a story in wrestling and some of them are rather simple. You might see someone turn to the other side in a rivalry by turning on someone they have cared about for a long time and it can make for quite the emotional moment. That was the situation again this weekend, and it came at a pretty big moment.

The main event of AEW WrestleDream saw Christian Cage defending the TNT Title against Darby Allin. Late in the match, Cage attempted to hit Allin with the TNT Title belt, but Allin’s friend Nick Wayne ran in for the save. Wayne then hit Allin with the title instead, costing him the match. Following the match, Wayne attacked Allin as Cage held him in place.

Opinion: This is something that should open up quite the series of doors for the two and that is a good thing. Wayne has the physical abilities to do well in AEW but he needed something like this to really push him over the edge. I’m curious to see where things go with the story and that is more than was the case before this match took place, so they’re certainly doing something right.
