There’s your explanation. I don’t remember the last time things were moving so fast in WWE. You have so many wrestlers moving on and off of the roster and that is the kind of thing that can cause some problems. There were several wrestlers released from the company in a large group, but another was let go later in the month. Now we might have an idea why.

Earlier this week, Curtis Axel was released from WWE. This came after the other large group of releases, though it seems to be the only release taking place at the moment. Axel has only wrestled on television once this year, appearing in a short loss to Daniel Bryan on the February 28 SmackDown. That wasn’t exactly the most promising sign for his future and it was more suggestive than we knew.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, part of the reason why Axel was released was due to his age. Axel is forty years old and has not done anything significant in WWE in years. With his lack of success in recent years and age, there was little reason for WWE to keep him around. There is no word on where Axel will go next or what will happen to his B Team partner Bo Dallas.

Axel did have some moments in WWE. Check out his time with the company:

Opinion: I never would have bet on Axel being as old as he is as he looks a good bit younger (which I mean as a compliment). Axel never exactly broke out in WWE and a lot of that was due to how he started. Why in the world did WWE give him the Michael McGillicutty name and expect him to get over? It was as bad as it was going to get and for the life of me I don’t get why he couldn’t just be Joe Hennig. Wouldn’t that have been a better idea?

What did you think of Axel? Will he wrestle for another mainstream company? Let us know in the comments below.
