What could have been. Roman Reigns and the Bloodline has been the biggest WWE story in several years, as the saga centered around Reigns and his family has dominated the promotion. Reigns has had issues with a variety of family members, but there are several who have not been a part of the story. This includes the most famous member of them all, but it seems things might have been closer to taking place than expected.

A match between Reigns and his cousin the Rock had been rumored for several months leading into this year’s WrestleMania 39 but nothing ever came of it. The Rock was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show and revealed that there had been discussions about a match, which “wasn’t going to be the end of something, but the beginning”. The two sides could not come together on the match but Rock did say he was open to appearing at WrestleMania 40 next year. According to Fightful Select, there were discussions about the match but nothing came of them. Members of the roster said something similar to “I’ll believe it when I see it.”.

Opinion: I’m with the locker room with this in that I’ll believe it when I see it. Rock vs. Reigns has been teased for so long now that it is almost hard to fathom it happening. The match would be one of the most perfect setups imaginable due to the family connections, but at some point it has to move beyond just the speculation about the match. Maybe that happens one day, but we could be waiting for a very long time.
