It’s not even in season. Every year over WrestleMania weekend, WWE inducts a rather large group of wrestlers into the Hall of Fame. This is quite the honor for wrestlers as they are said to be some of the greatest of all time. While some of them might not be as well known, WWE has added in several older wrestlers in their Legacy Wing. In a surprise, a new one was announced on Friday.
As announced on Triple H’s Twitter account, Hisashi Shinma was inducted into the Legacy Wing at a house show on Friday in Tokyo. Shinma was the storyline President of the WWF from 1978 until 1984 when he was succeeded by Jack Tunney. His most famous moment as President was dealing with the unannounced WWF Title change between Antonio Inoki and Bob Backlund in 1979. Shinma is the first living inductee in the Legacy Wing.
An amazing night in #WWETokyo. A city I’ve performed in countless times with an incredible roster of @WWE Superstars. An honor to give Mr. Shinma his #WWEHOF Legacy Award and team with The Club.
…and if this was one of my last times to perform in Tokyo… it was #TooSweet. pic.twitter.com/jED0yD5BlB— Triple H (@TripleH) June 28, 2019
Shinma was announced with the other Legacy Wing inductees earlier this year. Check out the official announcement:
Opinion: This is rather cool and the kind of thing that WWE doesn’t do enough of most of the time. Shinma is not well known to today’s fans and it is great to see WWE acknowledging a piece of their history that doesn’t get the same amount of attention that others do. It is nice to see something like this and hopefully WWE continues to do such a thing, just for the sake of wrestling education.
Do you remember Shinma? Who else should be added to the wing? Let us know in the comments below.
