Even longer. We are in the middle of a transitional period for WWE and that is likely to continue for a good while to come. There have been all kinds of changes for the company’s television shows, some of which are going to look different than they ever have before. That includes one of the biggest shows WWE has ever presented, which is going to be growing in a big way.

WWE has announced that SmackDown will expand to three hours starting in 2025, starting with the January 3 edition from Phoenix, Arizona. This has been rumored for several months, though there have also been rumors that the expansion will only last until the middle of 2025. WWE’s announcement did not mention anything suggesting that the move will be short term.

Opinion: This is a move that has been expected for a long time now and it makes sense. It is going to make for some long Friday nights, but at the same time it is one of those things that evens out SmackDown and Monday Night Raw a bit. Having the shows run different amounts of time never made a ton of sense so this is something that could help the balance of power.
