That’s an interesting take. AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works and has also come a long way in its short history. The company has rocketed up the charts, though things have also changed behind the scenes. This includes some adjustments to how much influence the top names have behind the scenes, which has changed the way they are viewed in front of the cameras. Now one of them has quite the opinion on how he is perceived.
AEW Executive Vince President Cody Rhodes was a guest on Busted Open Radio and discussed the fans’ more negative reactions to his recent appearances. Rhodes talked about how his reception will be different depending on the location and he does not want to take the simple route of a boss abusing his power. He then went into an explanation based on Woody from the Toy Story franchise, saying that while he once was the most popular, now some new people have replaced him. Rhodes also said that he wants to ride this wave and enjoy all of it. Here are some of his comments, with transcription courtesy of Fightful.com:
“Woody was having a hell of a time. He was having a great time. He was getting played with every day. He was the number one toy. Buzz Lightyear shows up, Woody gets thrown in the toy box. If you’re wondering how I feel, take a peek at how Woody felt in the very first Toy Story because that, to a degree, has been my role lately. However, with that said in my pettiness aside, I have been doing this since I was 15 years old and that education is invaluable in terms of me not panicking, and in terms of also me enjoying this moment. I’ve never had a run like this in my career where everything is happening at once personally and professionally. I want to ride the wave. I want to look back at it and enjoy it. But yes, if anyone wants to know perhaps how I feel identify with Woody from Toy Story if that makes any sense. That’s where I’m at with it.”
Rhodes certainly is in a unique place. Check out what he has done in AEW:
Opinion: I’m not sure what to think of that kind of a take but it is certainly something that has popped into Rhodes’ mind before. Rhodes isn’t as popular as he once was but his appearances still have some weight to them. I’m not sure how much longer than it going to be the case, but it matters when he is on the show and it makes sense for him to ride that status for as long as he can.
What do you think of Rhodes? What is next for him in AEW? Let us know in the comments below.
