What benefit exists with a title that has no prestige? Putting the strap on a larger-than-life star like Brock Lesnar may have seemed like a smart move in the beginning and it actually could have worked had the booking been handled a bit differently. But instead he’s come back around to Roman Reigns, who only seems to be waiting for a championship that’s already his. Fans know Roman is winning the belt at some point. Is that going to happen on April 27?
The match between Reigns and Lesnar will happen inside a steel cage, which is fitting if this is indeed the blow-off to their feud. Once upon a time, the cage meant the end. Of course in WWE, a cage match sometimes just means it’s a Tuesday and the company is using it to set up something else. If that is the case, then this one is not over. But if that’s true, then what in the world could happen next?
Lesnar has beaten everyone. There are only a handful of guys that Brock has not faced one-on-one and he soundly defeated everyone else. No one can measure up to him and no one can compete with him on his level without falling in the end. AJ Styles couldn’t beat him. Braun Strowman mauled Lesnar but lost. Bray Wyatt had no chance. Dean Ambrose had a ring full of weapons and couldn’t get the job done. When it comes to the New Era, Lesnar has been there and destroyed that.
Check out Samoa Joe calling out Roman Reigns on Raw:
Roman Reigns is the only one that continues to be a problem for him. The Big Dog just will not go down without a fight. Lesnar has to physically devastate Reigns to the point that he can no longer stand and when that happens, the match is over. Lesnar gets the win and Reigns lives to fight another day.
It’s obvious that WWE is telling a story here and that story revolves around Reigns’ forward progress. Every time he faces Lesnar, he gets a little bit closer to beating him. Fans know that all of this is building toward a Roman Reigns victory and a new Universal champion. Why it hasn’t happened yet is a mystery.
The company continues to push Roman as the top babyface and as the man that deserves love for never giving up. But the harder WWE pushes the narrative, the more fans turn on him. WWE has done him no favors in that regard and until it stops, Reigns is forced to battle uphill. So when it comes to the Greatest Royal Rumble on April 27, there can really be only one outcome.
Roman must finally dethrone The Conqueror. Fans know it. They may not care about it and they may not want to see him succeed in the end. But they also know it’s meant to happen. But whether or not it will actually happen on April 27 is anyone’s guess.
