Kenny Omega Responds to ‘New Beginning’, Friendship With Kota Ibushi

Kenny Omega has now responded to the situation following New Japan Pro Wrestling’s ‘New Beginning’ show. Yeah, this isn’t Omega’s best week…

To summarize the events at ‘New Beginning,’ Omega defended his IWGP United States Championship against Jay White in a losing effort.

After the match, Hangman Page and Cody [Rhodes] of the Bullet Club hit the ring as the former challenged White. Omega halted the challenge, leading to more dissension within the faction as Cody hit Omega with the Cross Rhodes.

Page held Omega back as Cody went to attack him with the chair but Kota Ibushi made the save for Omega- continuing their storyline.

In an interview with Tokyo Sports, as translated by Chris Charlton on Twitter, Omega responded to the events that took place during the week.

“When he [Kota Ibushi] came to help me, I had a flashback to our time as Golden Lovers. Ibushi’s always been kind of hard to figure out, but I kind of understand something. The real Kenny is always at Kota’s side.

I said I wanted to face him [in the 61 Final] but the truth is what I wanted was to stand in the ring with him.

[I didn’t go to WWE] because I was waiting for him. If we aren’t together, there’s no point. I want us to change the world together. I took belts with Bullet Club, did a lot, but that was all the job. Golden Lovers transcends wrestling. This is real life. As long as there was a chance for this to happen, I wasn’t going to say goodbye to NJPW.

I don’t know if he wants what I want. But if he does, we can do something amazing together.”

Omega thanked Charlton for the translation, confirming the accuracy of that explanation.
