And then there were two. Tonight’s “2018 Royal Rumble” was the first ever with two Royal Rumble matches on the card. That meant a first time ever women’s match, with the winner getting to face a champion of their choice at “Wrestlemania XXXIV”. However, things didn’t go quite as planned.

Asuka won the 2018 women’s Royal Rumble match, last eliminating Nikki Bella. Brie Bella and Sasha Banks were the other two members of the final four with Trish Stratus entering at #30. After the match was over, Asuka was about to pick her opponent for “Wrestlemania XXXIV” when Ronda Rousey debuted. Rousey offered Asuka a handshake but Asuka slapped it away. There is no word on who Asuka will be facing.

Here’s the post match angle.

Ronda Rousey confronts Asuka, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair: Royal Rumble 2018 (WWE Network)

Opinion: This closed the show and its easy to see why. The fact that a lot of the show was built around the women’s match made the post-main event angle that much bigger, which is why this needed to close things out. Asuka winning and setting up a match at “Wrestlemania XXXIV” against an opponent to be named is interesting and leaves several doors open, which gives you a reason to keep watching. Well done with a good angle to close the show.
