Legendary wrestler Chris Jericho was interviewed by The Cult of Whatever where he spoke about his 1999 debut on ‘Raw.’

Jericho is considered to have had one of the greatest wrestling debuts in history with WWE ranking the debut as the fourth greatest moment in ‘Raw’ history in their recent countdown.

During late 1999, WWE started to air a “Countdown to the Millenium” where a timer would countdown, decreasing each time it is on air.

WWE took advantage of what was known as the “Y2K bug,” with the countdown. The bug was a projection that computer systems wouldn’t function properly beginning in 2000 since the media believed computer program coding couldn’t handle the unrecognizable change brought on by the ’00.’

On August 9, the ‘Countdown to the Millenium’ ended during a promo by The Rock. Jericho’s music would hit and he would make his debut in the company.

In speaking with The Cult of Whatever, Jericho had the following to say on that debut:

“It was definitely one of the best debuts ever. I came up with the idea of the countdown clock and Vince McMahon came up with the idea of having the clock end right in the middle of Rocks promo. I think that is the biggest reaction I had ever got, a lot of people knew it was going to me but there were also a lot of people that didn’t have a clue. It was a different world back then, the internet wasn’t like it is today, these days you would just go online and you can find things out right away but it wasn’t like that then.”

Jericho most recently competed at ‘Wrestle Kingdom 12‘ against IWGP United States Champion Kenny Omega in a No Disqualification match for the Championship.

He is expected to appear at ‘Raw 25‘ tonight- though as we previously reported, the company advertised him without the agreement being reached so there is a chance he doesn’t appear.
