The boxing match between the two men took place months ago back on August 26. Showtime Sports has released the final PPV numbers as 4.3 million within North America. That figure at $99.95 per order comes from traditional distribution as well as Showtime and UFC Internet PPV.
They had previously revealed the total revenue from the show exceeded $600 million. This number includes PPV revenue, ticket sales, sponsorship revenue and international distribution or PPV.
Meltzer explains that to put it in perspective, that one show generated more money than UFC does in 11 months and WWE does within nine months.
This number officially debunks the 6.7 million buy number that UFC president Dana White claimed at first. There were approximately 1 million buys in the U.K. which got the total number up to 5.3 million from the aforementioned 4.3 million in North America. Other places around the world have PPV but the total would end up being well below the six million.
The number of buys in North America for the fight places it in second place of all-time, with the 4.6 million 2015 Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight being in first place and the 2007 2.48 million Mayweather vs. Oscar De La Hoya fight in third place.
The fight between Mayweather and McGregor was the third most searched sporting event in the world in 2017, Meltzer added in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
