Right around the time of “SummerSlam,” word leaked former TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bully Ray would be leaving the company after being a staple of the organization for almost a decade. Ray’s contract had expired, and it was expected due to his high price tag, he would not be returning to work with TNA.

In an update provided by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is more backstage speculation going on within the company about his status. The report states that most in the company do believe his time is up with TNA, and that he won’t be re-signing with Dixie Carter’s brand. However, there is a sense of optimism.

Many in the TNA locker room are hopeful its leader will make his return at the upcoming TNA television tapings for “Impact Wrestling” in Bethlehem, Penn. Though it is unclear at this time as to whether he has signed a new deal, it is said if he does plan on returning, he would have to take a pay cut, given he was one of the final “higher-level” talents on the roster left in terms of pay.

His Team 3D partner Devon is still under contract through most of the rest of the year, which could put the company in an odd position should Ray not return.

Editor’s Note

If only they had developed some talent that could take over so the company wouldn’t rely on names like him. He’s been one of wrestling’s best stories over the past several years, but this is a debacle they brought upon themselves.
