WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels was the guest on The Ross Report this past week. On the podcast, he revealed major details about the ending of The Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania XXX. Below are some of the highlights from the conversation:

On his initial thoughts about the streak ending:

“Oh I was shocked. I guess even afterwards I’m somewhat amused, you check your Twitter and we hear the stories that are out there, and none of them are accurate. Everyone was stunned. You and I both know, one person and one person only makes that call.”

Michaels would elaborate on Vince McMahon making the call, but withheld going into reasoning.

“I’m sure in Vince’s mind, he’s got a reason. So that’s fine for me. And quite honestly, none of it’s my business anyway so I don’t worry about it.”

Ross then responded by suggesting that he wouldn’t have been surprised if the call to end the streak had been made on the weekend of the show or at “the eleventh hour.” Michaels then said he was backstage when it was called, just shortly before the show:

“I can tell you four hours.”

Ross also mentioned that he had seen Taker at the Hall of Fame ceremony, and said while he looked good, he did have in his mind that he had to have been beat up from all the surgeries he had. Michaels said while those were all factors, they ultimately were not the reason the streak ended.

“I think all those things are true. At the end of the day, ultimately, all those things are true, but it still has no bearing on the outcome of the match. That’s just a decision that’s made, one person makes it, and everyone has to abide by it. It’s just that simple. The reasons for that, I don’t know. I don’t know, you don’t know and I’m sure he does.”

He also gave his personal preference on how The Undertaker’s streak should have ended.

“In my personal opinion, I would have liked to have seen Taker undefeated, then retire. But that’s not my decision to make. Other than that, I’ll reserve all my opinions to myself.”

The entire interview with Michaels can be found here.

Editor’s Note:

Whether people want to admit it or not, it appears Undertaker didn’t have any say in his streak ending. It’s the Vince McMahon way of doing business, and it most certainly shocked the fans. Wow.
